الغزالي من بين الشخصيات الثقافية الإسلامية ، التي بدونها لا يمكن فهم تاريخها الروحي ، فهو نعمة عالمية بالقدر الذي تتعمق معارفنا فيه . ومع كل تعمق متجانس في إبداعه الفكري ستظهر وحدته وراء ما كان حافزاً للحكم على تناقضاته ، وهو ما لا يمكن استيعاب حقائقها دون نفي الوسائط والتعامل معه مباشرة . لقد أبدع الغزالي تآلفاَ فكريا هائلاً ، لم يصب بالهزيمة لأنه سعى للمستقبل باسم الماضي الغزالي من بين الشخصيات الثقافية الإسلامية ، التي بدونها لا يمكن فهم تاريخها الروحي ، فهو نعمة عالمية بالقدر الذي تتعمق معارفنا فيه . ومع كل تعمق متجانس في إبداعه الفكري ستظهر وحدته وراء ما كان حافزاً للحكم على تناقضاته ، وهو ما لا يمكن استيعاب حقائقها دون نفي الوسائط والتعامل معه مباشرة . لقد أبدع الغزالي تآلفاَ فكريا هائلاً ، لم يصب بالهزيمة لأنه سعى للمستقبل باسم الماضي ومجد الماضي لأنه قاعدة للمستقبل . وهو لم يرفض كل ما هو موجود لأنه ذاته نتاجه ، ولكنه لم يعترف بأية شرعية له لأنه نفي له . لقد أبدع الغزالي على الدوام حقائقه لكي يطمسها . والعمل في هذا الكتاب في أجزائه الأربعة ، ينصب في هذا الإطار ، يتناول كل من القضايا المتعلقة بشخصية الغزالي وصيرورة تآلفع اللاهوتي الفلسفي الصوفي ، ثم قضايا اللاهوت الفلسفي وعناصره الأساسية تطوره ومعضلاته ، وتقاليد علم الكلام وتطويره لمواضيعه التي صاغها في تآلفه الفكري ثم بحوث متعلقة بفلسفة الغزالي ، تتناول موقفه من الفلسفة وقضاياها المتعلقة بالميتافيزيقي والانطولوجيا والمعرفة ، إضافة إلى دراسة الأخلاقية الفلسفية والصوفية . أما الجزء المتعلق بنظرياته الاجتماعية السياسية فإنه سيتناول القضايا المتعلقة بالدولة والسلطة ، السياسة والأخلاق ، الحقوق والتقاليد السياسية في عالم الصوفي وغيرها من القضايا . وقد استند المؤلف في حصيلة هذه الدراسة إلى منهجية تحليلية نقدية ، مضمونية وإنشائية ، وتاريخية ومقارنة موضوعاتية .
