يقدّمُ هذا الكتابُ نصوصاً تاريخيةً وأدبيةً مترجمةً من الأصولِ المسمارية، مع شروحاتٍ وتعليقاتٍ مستفيضةٍ، ويتألّفُ من عشرين نصّاً مسمارياً مدوَّناً باللغتين السومريّة والأكديّة. تختصُّ موضوعاتُ هذه النصوصِ في حقليْ التاريخِ والأدبِ وما يتّصلُ بهما. وكان الدكتور نائل حنّون قد عملَ على ترجمةِ نصوصِ هذا الكتابِ بعد أن قدّمَ الترجماتِ العربيةَ المباشرةَ الأولى لنصوصٍ مسماريةٍ أس يقدّمُ هذا الكتابُ نصوصاً تاريخيةً وأدبيةً مترجمةً من الأصولِ المسمارية، مع شروحاتٍ وتعليقاتٍ مستفيضةٍ، ويتألّفُ من عشرين نصّاً مسمارياً مدوَّناً باللغتين السومريّة والأكديّة. تختصُّ موضوعاتُ هذه النصوصِ في حقليْ التاريخِ والأدبِ وما يتّصلُ بهما. وكان الدكتور نائل حنّون قد عملَ على ترجمةِ نصوصِ هذا الكتابِ بعد أن قدّمَ الترجماتِ العربيةَ المباشرةَ الأولى لنصوصٍ مسماريةٍ أساسيةٍ سابقة، ومنها شريعةُ حمورابي، وملحمةُ جلجامش، وقصّةُ الخليقةِ البابليةِ «حينما في العلى». يعودُ تاريخُ النصوصِ التي يضمُّها هذا الكتابُ إلى عصورٍ مختلفةٍ من تاريخِ حضارةِ وادي الرافدين القديمة. وهذا يعني أنها مدونةٌ بلهجاتٍ مختلفةٍ وأشكالٍ مختلفةٍ من الخطّ المسماريّ، وهذا يساعدُ في دراسةِ تلك اللهجاتِ والأشكالِ المختلفةِ للعلاماتِ المسمارية. إنّ لكلِّ نصٍّ من هذه النصوصِ أهميةً خاصةً، ويقدّمُ معظمُها مفاجأةً في مجالاتِ الدراساتِ اللغويةِ والحضاريةِ والتاريخيةِ والأدبيةِ الخاصةِ بالحضارةِ القديمةِ.
