نبذة النيل والفرات: التركمان شعب أصيل مسالم عراقي الهوى والتاريخ منذ آلاف السنين، وقد أحبوا الأرض وشعبها، رغم دعوات لجرهم إلى زاوية ضيقة والطعن في أصالته، وتغيير ديموغرافيته من الوجود إلى التواجد؛ ولإيمان الكاتب بعراقية كركوك التي تضم معظم مكونات الشعب العراقي، أي أنها عراق مصغر، ورغبة في توعية العراقيين والعالم أجمع بالخطر الذي يحدق بمدينة كركوك والذي قد يجر العراقيين جميعاً إلى القتال والتناحر من أجل الثروات النفطية للمدينة التي هي ثروات الشعب العراقي جميعاً وليس لفئة واحدة. فإن هدف البحث هو إثبات وجود التركمان في هذه المدينة وحقوقهم التي يحاول البعض هضمها وذلك من خلال نظرة متعالية لا تعترف بحقوق الآخرين ومن خلال تقليل عددهم وإضعاف دورهم وتهميشهم في المشهد السياسي العام. فقد قسم المؤلف الكتاب إلى فصل تمهيدي وثلاث فصول أساسية: فصل تمهيدي من الدراسة يبحث تطور العلاقات الدولية وإنبعاث القضايا القومية؛ الفصل الأول: يتضمن لمحة تاريخية عن التركمان وتراثهم الثقافي والديني الذي طبع مسيرتهم في التاريخ وما أنشأوا من دول وحضارات سادت العالم قروناً طويلة، أما الفصل الثاني: فيتحدث عن العلاقة المتبادلة بين التركمان والدولة العراقية وما شابها من شد وجذب. أما الفصل الثالث: والأخير فتناول فيه المؤلف أشكالية الوجود التركماني في كركوك من خلال التعرض إلى معاناة ومأساة التهجير القسري، وسياسات التعريب والتكريد التي مارستها الحكومات العربية في العراق والأحزاب الكردية بهدف محو الوجود التركماني في المدينة.
