قمصان النوم تزيد من رونق جسمها وتزيد نار رغبته اشتعالا فراح يحتال عليها بكل ما يملك من ضروب الاحتيال، وظل كل ليلة ينزع عن جسمها قميصا وكلما نزع واحدا أحس بقرب البلوغ ونشوة الوصول، لكن القمصان كثيرة والبلوغ بعيد والوصول ليس بمتحقق. كل ليلة تضئ الحجرة بلون قميص "أحمر ، أزرق ، أخضر ، وألوان لا يعرف صنوفها. في ليلة بلغت حرارته أقصاها شعر أنه القميص الخير، كان أبيض اللون بلون جسمها، وكانت تضخك ضحكات تبلغ عنان السماء ضحكاتها تزيده جنونا يداه مجنونتان أكثر من جنون عقه وجرها من قميصها الأخير. بدت كالسيف اللامع في الظلام قدها أبيض رشيق عار إلا من ورقة توت شع منها ضياء بهر عينيه وعم في الغرفة الظلماء. لم يستطع ان يفتح عينيه وكان شهيق أنفاسه بلغ حدا لم يستطع احتماله فغشيت عيناه وسقط بين الوعيى ونقيضه وسمع زغاريد تجلجل في اجواز الفضاء.
