هذا الكتاب هو حفنة خيّرة من قمع الأدب القصصي اللبناني العربي غذاؤها منها وفيها، وهو شهادة ساقها المؤلف عفوية الخاطر، جاءت قصصه جمرات من براكين المأساة اللبنانية التي عاشها الكاتب كما عاشها الكثيرون، ولكنّه، خلافاً لهم، لم يعشها تأوهاً وتحسراً وتألماً، بل جعلها أدباً يسجل واقعاً، ويستخلص عبرة ويستنهض هِمّة، ويستنبط خيراً.
وهكذا أتت قصصه في جدها غالباً، وفي هزلها أحياناً، مَعْرَضاً للإنسان اللبناني الذي تمرس بالزلزلة النكراء فعلاً وانفعالاً. وقد بلغ المؤلف في تصوره أبلغ الغايات بألفاظه المنتقاة، وجمله المضمومة، وتحليله الذي يضرب في تربة النفس البشرية. وهذه القصة موجّهة إلى كل ناشئ لبناني وعربي هدفها تعليمي تربوي وتاريخي هادف.
هذا الطبيب الذي يمنعه القصف من إنقاذ الطفل، وهذا المواطن الذي تحولّه الصدفة إلى سارق، ولاعب الطاولة الذي ينجو من الموت بأعجوبة من أعاجيب القَدَر، وهذا الزوج العابث الذي يزداد بالأحداث عبثاً وشراً، وهذا العامل الأديب الذي يفضّل الموت جوعاً على ما بذل ماء الوجه، وغيرهم، تجدهم في هذه القصص الاجتماعيّة الخمس المستقاة من محنة "لبنان".
