ويتنبأ الكتاب لأفريقيا جنوب الصحراء وجنوب آسيا وجنوب شرقها بأزمات خانقة بسبب الانفجار السكانى أولاً، الذى سيقدح سلسلة من التغيرات التى ترقى إلى الأزمات الحادة الخانقة. ويفرد الكتاب لمسببات الأمراض المحمولة عبر الطعام نصيبًا كبيرًا من التحليل والمناقشة. ويتناول الكتاب التجربة الكوبية المذهلة فى تسعينيات القرن العشرين والزراعة الحضرية عمومًا باعتبارها إجراءات لمواجهة تلك الأزمات. كما يعرض الكتاب لظاهرة خطيرة لم تعرفها البشرية إلا حديثًا نسبيًا؛ ظاهرة رافقت ظهور الزراعة الصناعية والأغذية سابقة التجهيز – السمنة المفرطة، يختتم المؤلف كتابه بعبارة توجز الكثير، "الجوع دائمًا دعوة لصنع عالم أفضل، وسيظل كذلك".
