يعدّ الروائي والنقاد إبراهيم مضواح الألمعي من أحد أهم أدباء جيله في المملكة العربية السعودية، فأعماله النقدية والروائية الصوت الوحيد الباقي وسط جوقةٍ من الأصوات النافرة والمنفرة، فهو يرى ما لا يراه الآخرون، فكتاباته لا تفُسر في الأعالي، كما يفسر المطر المنثال على أجنحة الشجر، بل هي كتابة تخشى السقوط في آبار ليس في جوفها غير أتربةٍ وغبار، يُبددان المعنى قبل تكونه الأول في المجهول، لذلك فهو معني باللاغة، في محاولة لاسترجاع وظيفة اللغة الأولى التي انحرفت عنها، فاللغة ليست وسيلة لتقييد الفكرن إذ لها وظيفة عند "الألمعي" تتجاوز السائد والنمطي، إنها وسيلة إفصاح عمّا لم تستطع أن تفصح عنه حتى الآن.
تحت عنوان "الأعمال القصية" يجمع إبراهيم مضواح الألمعي خمسة من أعماله القصصية للفترة 1996م-2008م، باعتبار انها تمثل بالنسبة للمؤلف المرحلة القصصية الخالصة قبل أن ينصرف إلى كتابة الرواية، ولكن تظل كتابة القصة القصيرة هي "الهوى الأول"، بالنسبة للمؤلف كما يقول.
وبناءً على ما تقدم يضمّ الكتاب مجموعات المؤلف القصصية الخمس وهي: 1-قطف الاشواك 2001م، 2-على رصيف الحياة 2003م، 3-التابوت 2008م، 4-أوشال حزينة 2008م، 5-حديث الرخام 2008م.
