يقرأ الكاتب "عبد المنعم المحجوب" صفحة قرطاج المضيئة في كتاب أسماه "الكتاب الأرجواني"، فقرطاج كانت جسراً أرجوانياً بين قارتين وعالمين وثقافتين ومستقبلين، شبكة تجارية للعالم المأهول آنذاك، الذي هيأ له القرطاجيون عشرات السفن وآلاف المغامرين لإدماجه في منظومتهم المتوسطية العالمية. أطلق عليها المؤسسون الأوائل اسم "قرت حدشت" أي القرية الحديثة وتأسست على يد الأميرة علية (814ق.م)، تلك البنّاءة العظيمة، الأم، الرائية، ومنذ البدء كانت عالماً مستقلاً متوحداً. يستعرض الكاتب عبد المنعم المحجوب في كتابه هذا إلى تاريخ هذه المدينة العريقة وما مرّ بها على مدى قرون عديدة منذ لحظة تأسيسها، لينقل القارئ إلى ذلك الزمن الجميل الذي لا تزال قرطاج تشهد على عظمته بما تزخر فيه من ثقافات لتصبح أرضاً لتقاليد الجدل والحوار الفكري والمعرفي فبرأي الكاتب أن كل فكرة مؤهلة بأنصارها أن تكون مذهباً واتجاهاً، وكل كتاب مؤهل بقرائه ونقاده أن يصبح متناً شهيراً من متون العرب وتآليفهم. يبحر الكاتب بشفافية الأديب الذي تعيش مدينته في داخله بتجربته الإنسانية الغنية فيراها "هبة النور" يقول: "النور لولا أن اهتدى إلى أصابع قرطاجية التقطته، نسجته، وأسكنته الأرض، لظل عابراً في رحلة عابرة". فقرطاج برأيه "ستكتظ وتمتلئ وستعبرها الأجناس وستعبرها اللغات، والأحلام، والديانات وستنقلب من فضاء طبيعي إلى مجرد... ليكتشف الجميع أنهم يتقاتلون، يحاربون أنفسهم، ويتنازعون الفكرة ذاتها". كتاب هام يحتوي على عدة نصوص فلسفية وتاريخية أيضاً تحكي قصة هذه المدينة التي وصفها الفيلسوف المغاربي أبوليوس المدوري بأجمل تعبير "حورية البحر والأسرار". إن استدعاء قرطاج – الآن – في الذهن يمرّ بذلك التاريخ العظيم الذي لا يمكن إغفاله أو تجاوزه منذ الكنعانيين الأوائل حتى الأزمنة الحديثة.
