"اعتقدت أنني في زواجي منك يمكن أن أبقى وحيدة. ليس علي الذهاب إلى أي مكان. فقط الجلوس في البيت وقضاء النهار لحظة إثر لحظة" قالت وأردفت بعد هنيهة صمت ونبرة مثقلة، شبه هامسة وكأنها تتحدث إلى نفسها "أريد أن أحس كل لحظة، كل دقيقة تمر في حياتي". كانت النبرة العميقة الحزينة في صوت الفتاة قد قللت من إنذهال الشاب وما دفعه إلى أن يغرق هو نفسه في تأملاته. وهز رأسه موافقاً كمن أدرك تماماً ما كانت تعنيه. واستدار مغادراً مكانه خلف البارودنا من الفتاة باسطاً ذراعيه، فاندفعت نحوه ملقية برأسها إلى صدره. وكانت دموع قليلة رقيقة آخذة بالانحدار على وجنتيها.
