عندما كبر ولداي موسى وعيسى، بدآ بطرح أسئلة مشابهة لأسئلتي لوالدي، وكما أجابني والدي ولم أقتنع، أجبت ولدي بكل ما أوتيت من قدرة على الإقناع وشعرت أنهما لم يقتنعا تمام الاقتناع : لماذا ثار السنباذيون على الحكم العباسي ؟ ألا يكونوا مظلومين ؟ لماذا قتلنا السنباذيون ؟ لماذا خطفوا عمتي هند ؟ لماذا أحرقوا بيت جدي الفزاري ؟ لم أكن الوحيد الذي يتساءل عن هذه الكراهية السوداء، ولم يكن ولداي الوحيدين المتفاجئين بتلك الكراهية الكأداء، كثيرون في بغداد وأخواتها يطرحون أسئلة مشابهة ولا إجابات شافية. مع دورة الأيام بدأت أنظر إلى صراعاتنا مع المعارضين للحكم العباسي، ومنهم السنباذيين، من زوايا مختلفة: ما داموا قد دخلوا معنا في الإسلام فما الفرق بينهم وبين العباسيين أو غيرهم من القبائل والعائلات؟ لماذا لا نتركهم وما يعبدون؟ أم لنا على الناس سلطة كسلطة الله على خلقه؟ وهل من حق الخلفاء والأمراء احتكار السلطة في عائلاتهم وأقربائهم، وأخذ البيعة لأنفسهم ولذويهم بالقوة؟ لم يصدقني أحد في هذه الأمور الجوهرية، التي بقيت طي الكتمان ولكنها مما أقلقني وشغل عقلي، ولا بد أنها أقلقت وشغلت الكثيرين من الصامتين.
