يعيش على أرض مصر شعب واحد يتكون من أغلبية تدين بالإسلام، وأقلية يمثلها القِبْط تدين بالمسيحية. ويشري مصطلح الأغلبية والأقلية هنا إلى النسبة العددية. لأن القِبْط كأقلية دينية لا يشكلون أقلية عرقية أو سالية أو إثنية أو لغوية. وهو الأمر الذي ميز الشعب في مصر بدرجة عالية من التماسك لما كانت الحضارة العربية الإسلامية قد تفاعلت مع حضارة البلدان التي دخلت في دائرتها، وأن هذه الحضارة أعطت وأخذت، فإن روابط التكامل لم تنقطع، حتى في تلك العصور التاريخية التي تعرض فيها القِبْط لقيود أو إجراءات ذات طابع تمييزي شديد أو يسري. وبعد أن تحولت غالبية المصريين إلى الإسالم، وبعد أن أصبحت العربية لغة الجميع، استمر القِبْط مرتبطين بالنسق الثقافي العام لمجتمعهم الأكبر. وأما ثقافتهم الفرعية فقد تمركزت بالأساس في تجلياتها المادية والفكرية المختلفة حول كل ما يتصل بعقيدتهم الدينية ومقومات عبادتهم. تعالج الدراسة بعض الإشكاليات التي ترتبط بقضايا التكامل بين المسلمين والقِبْط. ثم تنتهي بمحاولة لطرح عناصر رؤية مستقبلية.
