بطابعها المرح، تتناول رواية أنثى الوعل بأسلوب المتكلم قصة شاب في مقتبل العمر يتكلم عن نفسه وعن مواقف مر بها في حياته ، يعرضها أثناء قيادته لحافلة ومعه وفد أجنبي في مهمةلزيارة منطقة أثرية في شمال الجزيرة العربية للاطلاع على بعض الآثار.أثناء الرحلة يقوم الراوي بمقارنات بين ثقافة الشرق والغرب، وفي أثناء ذلك يعلو صوت النقد أحيانا وينخفض.تحتوي الرواية على إشارات اجتماعية ووطنية وسياسية آخذة شكلا كوميديا في بعض المراحل ، وفي مراحل أخرى تأخذ الشكل الجاد الذي يحاول رسم الصورة كما هي.
