إن تعريف القارئ العربي بنتاج الألسني "رومان جاكوبسون" ليس بالأمر السهل نسبياً نظراً إلى تنوع المسائل التي عالجها هذا الألسني الرائد. من هنا أهمية هذا الكتاب التي سعت فيه فاطمة الطبال بركة إلى تقديم المبادئ الألسنية التي طورها جاكوبسون، وإبراز مواقفه العلمية في مختلف المسائل التي أثارت ولا تزال تثير اهتمامات الألسنية (العلاقة بين الشكل والمضمون، التزامن والتعاقب، الانتقاء والتنسيق، الخطاب الخارجي والخطاب الداخلي، السمات التمايزية، الشعرية، الاستعارة، التواصل...) وقد رأت الباحثة أن لا تكتفي بتحليل آراء جاكوبسون ومواقفه العلمية وأثرها في مجال الألسنية بل اتبعت تحليلها هذا بتقديم ترجمة دقيقة لستة أبحاث لهذا العالم الألسني وضعتها في متناول القارئ العربي ليتصل مباشرة بفكر جاكوبسون الألسني وخلاصة تحاليله لبنى اللغة ومسائلها بشكل عام. تتركز أهمية هذه الدراسة في أنها جاءت كدليل مفيد يعرف القارئ العربي على نتاج ألسني غزير وتحتوي بالتالي على مادة أكاديمية غنية نظراً لندرة المادة التي تعرض للمسائل الألسنية الحديثة. ولا جدال أن الباحثة قد بذلت جهداً واضحاً وملموساً في إلقاء الضوء على فكر جاكوبسون الألسني وأظهرت أنها متمكنة من موضوعها ودقيقة في عرضها وفي توضيحها للقارئ الجوانب النظرية في أسلوب واضح وسلس مما يساعد القارئ العربي على استيعاب هذه المسائل العلمية المتطورة.
