ما زال تراثنا العربي الإسلامي الذي ورثناه عن السابقين يزخر بالآثار المخطوطة القيمة يضمُّ بين طياتها تخصصات كثيرة، وكنوزاً قيمة ثمينة على رفوف المكتبات العالمية الكبرى، لم يتم نشره، وما نُشر منه إنما هو غيض من فيض، وقد قيض الله لهذه الآثار من ينظمها ويفهرسها ويقوم على حمايتها، وفهرستها، والتعريف بقيمها.
((وتعدُّ مسألة العناية بالتراث الإسلامي من المسائل التي حظيت بإهتمام القدماء والمحدثين، لكونها شديدة الصلة بنتاج حضاري وعلمي كبير، هو مُحصِّلُةُ إرث الأمة المحفوظ، والثابت الذي جعلته عدَّة أو ذخيرة لمستقبلها، يوصل حاضرها بماضيها))
ولذلك كان التحقيق همة كبيرة، وعملاً جباراً شاقاً، يهدف إلى التنقيب عن ذلك التراث وإخراجه إلى حيز الوجود لتضيء الأمة منه حاضرها، والتحقيق من أول ما تحتاج إليه في العناية بذلك الإرث، ونشره، والتعريف به، بمزيدٍ من الصبر والإثارة والجهد الحثيث، لإخراج المؤلفات عن صمتها الذي اعتادت عليه رفوف المكتبات لتواكب تأريخ أمتها، فقد قامت الأمة بمسؤوليتها التأريخية الضخمة في حفظ هذا العلم ورعايته، والعمل على إزدهاره، وتنميته، بغية تقويم النصوص وإخراجها على ما تركه مؤلفوها، أو أقرب من ذلك، من خلال منهج علمي حديث متفق عليه، يقدم مادة علمية موثقة إلى المتلقين في حقول المعرفة العلمية.
