قال المؤلف في مقدمة الكتاب: حاولت جاهداً أن أسجل في هذا الكتاب معظم الأسماء الملونة واجتهدت في البحث عن هذه المعلومات. وقد ذكر المؤلف العديد من الأسماء الملونة بالأبيض والأحمر والأخضر والأزرق والأسود والأصفر، فقال: إن أحد الصحابة كان اسمه أسودا وغيره الرسول صلى الله عليه وسلم وسماه أبيضا. وأشار إلى (زرقاء اليمامة) واسمها حذام امرأة في الجاهلية من العرب اليمانية يضرب بها المثل في حدة البصر وصدق الخبر. ومن الأسماء الخضراء: الأخضر وهو الفضل بن العباس بن عتبة بن أبي لهب بن عبد المطلب الهاشمي القرشي أحد شعراء بني هاشم.. وقيل إنه لقب بالأخضر لقوله: وأنا الأخضر من يعرفني أخضر الجلدة من بيت العرب وقال المؤلف عن اسم من الأسماء السوداء: الأسود بن المطلب وهو الأسود بن المطلب بن أسد ويلقب زاد الركب. ومن الأسماء الصفراء: صفراء بنت عبد الله بن عامر بن عبد الله بن نائل.
