يشكل التراث السردي العربي معيناُ لا تزال الأعمال السردية تنهل منه وتستوحيه، سواء على مستوى المضمون المكاني أو اللغة أو البنى الفنية، فعلى رغم مرور قرون من اندثار المستعمر البرتغالي من عمان. لا يزال هذا التاريخ ينهل منه الأدباء للتعبير عن بطولات أهل الخليج في دحر الاحتلال. فمن خلال العلاقة التي تربط الدكتور عاصم أستاذ علم التاريخ في الجامعة العمانية والطالب أحمد. يستحضر الروائي تاريخ عمان في عصر اليعاربة لما له من تأثر في وجدان الناس. تتحدث الرواية عن المقاومة والشجاعة التي أظهرها العمانيون ضد الغزاة وذلك عبر سرد الطالب أحمد لأحد النصوص القديمة لشخصية (الثعلب المقاتل) بحسب ما أسموه البرتغاليون في ذلك الوقت (القرن الحادي عشر الميلادي) يقول أحمد: "إن قصة الثعلب المقاتل الذي بنفسي لا أعرف عن اسمه الحقيقي إلا الاسن الأول وهو عامر لكن ما أعرفه أن سيرته قد باح بها لأحد الكتاب المشهورين في زمانه وهو على فراش الموت، واسم هذا الكاتب الحارث بن مسعود، حيث لم يكتف بسرد ما قاله الثعلب فقط، لكنه سأل عن تفاصيل التفاصيل ممن عاصروه في تلك الفترة...". أما الروائي خليل خميس فيقول: "... كثيرة تلك الحقائق الموغلة في التاريخ، والبطولات الإنسانية الغائبة عن الأجيال المعاصرة التي زهدت في الاطلاع عليها لأسباب عديدة. لكن لا سبيل لتقديمها عذبة دافقة إلا بالخيال واللغة السلسة والسرد المتألق، وهذا ما حاولت أن تقدمه رواية "بيعة الروح".
