يواصل الروائي توصيفه لروائح مدينته ،من خلال التحولات التي دخلت على المدينة وأفقدتها روحها الحقيقية ،وروائحها القديمة جاعلة منها مدينة مفرغة بلا روائح ،وبلا روح . فمع انتهاء عصر الروائح الأول،ودخول المدينة عصرا جديدا – أمل الناس فيه خيرا -تفوح روائح أخرى تبدو خافتة في البداية لكنها سرعان ما تزكم الأنوف ،فيضج أهل المدينة بالشكوى ويرفعون أيديهم بالدعاء ،وهنا يضع الكاتب اصبعه من خلال (شخصية المؤرخ الحزين)على موضع الوجع (عائلة صالح قاسم المتنفذة وفساد أولاده )موحيا من خلال السخرية القاتمة أحيانا بأن “الوعي”وحده المخلص ،وأن السلطة التي تحاول أن تزج المدينة في أشكال حضارية هشة وكاذبة ،انما تضع هذه المدينة أمام أقبح احتمالات التردي ، فهذا الفساد وشراسة المتسلطين والمتنفذين هو ما فتح مدنا عربية بلا حصر على مستقبل مجهول من الفوضى . رواية “روائح المدينة في قسمها الثاني “عبارة عن معالجة فنية لاستشراء ظاهرة الفساد في ظل دولة “العهد الجديد” ،وآليات تكوّن الرأي العام -خلال عهود سياسية متتالية –كرست الفساد والتخلف وفق ما أدخلته على المدينة من تحولات ألحقت بالحياة اليومية الكثير من الخراب.
