"الأريج العطري" ديوان يضم باقة من قصائد وأزجال الشاعر "شاكر سليمان"، كتبها باللهجة العامية في مناسبات متعددة وتناول فيها أغراضاً عديدة تتراوح بين الغزل والشعر القومي والإخوانيات. وقد تمكن الشاعر من ترجمة أحاسيسه وعواطفه بلغة عامية أقرب ما تكون إلى الفصحى. لقد ظل هذا الشاعر رغم هجرته الاضطرارية إلى الولايات المتحدة متمسكاً بلغته وثقافته الوطنية، فتراه يجيد العتابا والميجنا والقرادي والموشح وكل ما يتغنى به اللسان العامي. كما كن حاضر الذهن، قوي البديهة، ويكاد القارئ يتحسس في شعره تأثره بالطبيعة وتغنيه بها يقول الشاعر في قصيدة (طل القمر يامي): "طل القمر يامي ما أحلى طلتو، من شعاع الشمس لابس حلتو، ثبت نظري في القمر وأمعنت فيه، شفت الكمد والحزن داخل هلتو، طل القمر يامي من خلف الجبل، بلون شاحب عكس ما كان قبلو". ولقد تمكن الشاعر بما أوتيه من موهبة وقريحة أن يقدم ما عٌد جديداً في حينه إذ لم يسبقه أحد من الزجالين والشعراء إلى هذه الطريقة في النظم، إذ خلّص الشعر الزجلي مما علق به من خوض في أغراض ممقوتة ممجوجة واقتصاره على المديح والتمادي فيه، حتى تمكن "شاكر سليمان" من تهذيب الزجل وتنقيته من الشوائب التي علقت به.
