في هذا الكتاب مجموع قصص قصيرة تعري من خلالها "ليلى أبو زيد" الواقع المغربي، بقصص متجاوزة كل قيد وكل شرط، وبأسلوب مباشر ذو نزعة عفوية ناضجة ومدركة لقضايا الناس وما يعتريهم من أزمات نفسية واجتماعية في صراعهم مع الحياة عموماً.
جاءت المجموعة بمثابة لقطات تركز على الناس والمجتمع والعادات والعلاقة بين الرجل والمرأة، بالإضافة إلى الصراع بين قيم الإنسان الفرد الذاتية وقيم مجتمعه الذي ينتمي إليه، من منظور الأنثى الكاتبة والذي تخلله نفخات من تراث المغرب.
من قصص المجموعة نقرأ قصة قصيرة بعنوان "صديقة عمرها" وهي تدور حول مفهوم الصداقة، تقول القصة بحكاية الزوجة التي تربطها علاقة صادقة وثيقة بصديقة لها، لكن هذه الصداقة الوطيدة، تتعرض لامتحانات، وتنتهي في النهاية إلى كشف الزيف الذي يلف العلاقات الإنسانية مهما بلغت درجة الصفاء التي تنشدها، وأن العلاقات المجتمعية أغلبها قائم على النفاق، وإنه لا مجال أمام المرأة والرجل إلا الحيطة والحذر، وفي هذه القصة تكتشف "خدوج" أن صديقة عمرها وزوجها قد عرضا ابنتهما زوجها للزواج بها "لقد جاءت تعرض علي ابنتها كالبضاعة... أرسلت لي زوجها يستظهر عن ظهر قلب: "نود تقديم إبنتنا إليك، لا مقدم ولا مؤخر. عطية لوجهك" قلت له: "وجهي أوجه الوالي؟" فقال: "وما الفرق؟" قلت: "وخدوج؟" فقال: "خدوج شرفت وهرفت – أي شاخت وهرمت- دعها تتفرغ للماء وللقبلة وعش انت، ابنتي شباب وجمال وتعليم وعصرنة، ابنتي تليق بمنصبك".
أما في بقية قصص المجموعة فتتناول الكاتبة بصورة انتقادية جوانب متعددة من حياة الواقع المغربي في الحقل السياسي والإجتماعي، لتكشف للقارئ الزيف الذي يلفف حياة الأفراد، واغترابهم عن ذواتهم، وعما تربوا عليه وتلقوه بسبب الأنانية والمصالح الشخصية...
