نظراً للدور المهم الذي يلعبه التخطيط الاستراتيجي في مستوى اداء المنظمات في القطاعين العام والخاص، وغياب هذا التوجه لدى كثير من المنظمات العربية، ارتأت المنظمة إصدار سلسلة من الكتيبات والأدلة الإرشادية للمفاهيم والمهارات والقدرات المطلوبة للمساهمة في إيضاح ما يجب أن يفعله هؤلاء القادة، وكيف يجب أن يقوموا بتطبيق الإدارة الاستراتيجية في منظماتهم من هنا يأتي هذا الكتاب كدليل للمدير العربي.
وقد تم تقسيم الكتاب إلى سبعة فصول أساسية، يشتمل الفصل الأول على المصطلحات والمفاهيم الأساسية للإدارة الاستراتيجية كخطوة أساسية في توفير قاعدة من الفهم المشترك وتوحيد المعاني الخاصة بها... ويحتوي الفصلين الثاني والثالث على منهجية عملية لتشخيص وتقييم الأوضاع الحالية للمنظمة، يتناول الفصل الثاني تحليل البيئة الداخلية، ويعرض الفصل الثالث لنفس المنهجية بالتطبيق على البيئة الخارجية... وفي الفصل الرابع تتم مناقشة الجوانب الخاصة بصياغة الاستراتيجية، ولا سيما الرؤية والرسالة والأهداف على مستوياتها المختلفة مع الاستعانة ببعض التجارب العربية الواقعية لإيضاح هذه الجوانب... ويأتي الفصل الخامس لمناقشة البدائل الاستراتيجية والمتغيرات التي تراعي في تقييمها، والمفاضلة فيما بينها مصحوبة بمناقشة للبدائل المتعارف عليها وجزئياتها، مدعمة بأمثلة من المنظمات التجارية والصناعية والخدمية... وفي الفصل السادس تمت مناقشة التفاصيل الخاصة بمتطلبات التطبيق الفعال للاستراتيجية... ويختتم الكتاب بالفصل السابع والذي يعرض لمراحل وأدوات متابعة وتقييم الاسترتيجية.
