يتناول بحث مسألة أصل الأكراد وفق المصادر العربية جانباً مهماً من جوانب العلاقات العربية-الكردية، وهو الجانب الذي لم يلق الاهتمام الكافي لدى المؤرخين، ولم تسلط عليه الأضواء كما يجب. وبحث الموضوع مهم جداً؛ ولاسيما لفهم القضية الكردية المعاصرة والتطورات الجيوسياسية في الوقت الحاضر، ودور الأكراد في منطقة الشرقين الأدنى والأوسط. إن رواية الأصل العربي للأكراد خاصة، كما توضح الدراسة، قد نشأت في الوسط العربي، وهناك الكثير من الدلائل تعطي الأساس للافتراض بأن ديار ربيعة ذاتها، كانت مهد تشكيل تلك الرواية التي انتشرت من هناك فيما بعد إلى المناطق الأخرى من أراضي الخلافة. إن قبول الأكراد لمضامين الرواية الزاعمة لتحدرهم من أصل عربي لا يثير الاستغراب، خصوصاً إذا ما أخذنا بالحسبان أن فكرة الأصل العربي كانت تضمن لأمراء الأكراد، مع اعتناقهم الدين الإسلامي، الاحترام والهيبة في بعض الأوساط، ومن ثم توسع دائرة نفوذهم.
