لا شك أن العالم العربى –الآن- يعانى من قصـور فى المجـال المعجمي إذا ما قورن بالنهضة المعجمية فى البلاد الأوربية التى اعتبرت المعاجم هـدفا قوميا فخصصوا لتلك الصناعة كافة الإمكانات وذللوا لها كل السبل الممكنة من هنا كانت فكرة المؤلف –رحمه الله- إنشاء معجم اللـغة العـربية المعاصرة ليكون معجما عصريا يقف على الكلمات المستعملة فى العصر الحديث والاستعمالات المستحدثة التى لم تفقـد الصحة اللغوية كما يغطى معظم الاستعمالات الخاصة بجميع أقطار الدول العربية ابتداء من المحيط حتى الخليج متفاديا أوجه القصور التى شابت المعاجم المنتجة قبله التى تتلخص فيما يأتى: الخلط بين المهجور والمستعمل وغياب كثير من المستحدث الاعتمـاد على بعضها البعض دون تمحـيص أو تدقيـق القصور فى تناول المعلـومات الصرفية والدلالية لمداخلها عدم إثبات معظم المصاحبات اللفظية التى يكثر استخدامها وكذلك التعبيرات السياقية التى اكتسبت معانى جديدة زائدة على معانى مفردتها كما تم الحرص على تقديم هذا المعجم فى شكلين: أحدهما ورقي، والآخر إلكتروني وتتميز النسخة الورقية بوجود أربعة فهارس وتتميز النسخة الإلكترونية بالإمكانات الهائلة فى اسـتدعاء المعلومة المطلوبة بسرعة وبأنظمة بحث متطورة فى كافة جزئيات المعجم.
