لا بد من الإقرار بأن عربية عصرنا لغة جديدة يدعوها المؤلف في هذا القاموس "العربية المعاصرة" وهي تمثل ذلك لغة معجم جديد يتسع على الدوام حيث يوجد في هذه العربية المعنى الجديد الذي أخذناه من تأثرنا باللغات الأعجمية. وقد ذهبنا إلى مجاز جديد نقلناه، شعرنا أم لم نشعر، من تلك اللغات. ثم إن هذه اللغة حافلة بالمصطلح الجديد الذي حمل إلينا فيما حمل من العلوم الحديثة في شعبيتها الإنسانية والتطبيقية وحسبنا أن نجد التكنولوجيا الجديدة غزت العربية فكانت ثروة جديدة.
وقد كان لنا في "عربيتنا المعاصرة" مواد عربية أخطأنا في دلالتها فصرفناها إلى دلالة جديدة. فشاعت وعمت. وقد يكون لنا أن نجد شيئاً في هذه العربية الجديدة يبتعد عن نحو العربية، ولكننا حملنا على تقبله. ويقف الدكتور إبراهيم السامرائي في هذا القاموس وقفات تاريخية يعرض لبعض جوانب العجم الجديدة وإلى التطور الذي أصاب هذه العربية. متبعاً لألفاظ ودلالة هذه الثروة اللغوية في عربية هذا العصر التي تلقفها من الصحف والمجلات ووسائل الإعلام، ومن المقالة والقصة والرواية.
