لا يمكننا القول بأن الفلسفة الإسلامية تتمثل فقط في ذلك التراث الذي تركه لنا فلاسفة المشرق العربي أمثال الكندي والفارابي وابن سينا وغيرهم وفلاسفة المغرب العربي وعلى سبيل المثال ابن باحة وابن طفيل وابن رشد لأننا بذلك نكون قد أغفلنا جوانب مهمة تدخل في إطار الفلسفة الإسلامية. إننا نجد أن الفلسفة الإسلامية تضم التصوف سواء أكان تصوفاً سنياً كتصوف رابعة العدوية وأبو حامد الغزالي، أو تصوفاً فلسفياً الذي انتهى أصحابه بنظريات كالحلول والاتحاد ووحدة الوجود هذا النوع من التصوف الذي نجده عند الحلاج والبسطامي وابن عربي. حقيقة إن منهج التصوف (ذلك المنهج الذوقي الوجداني) يختلف عن منهج الفلاسفة الخلص (المنهج العقلي) إلا أننا يمكن أن ندخل التصوف ضمن إطار الفلسفة الإسلامية. كذلك يمكن أن ندخل في دائرة الفلسفة الإسلامية علم أصول الفقه والذي يسمى بعلم أصول الأحكام، هذا العلم في رأي بعض الباحثين يتضمن بعض المبادئ الكلامية، أيضاً قد ندخل الجانب العلمي من بحوث مفكري وفلاسفة العرب ضمن الفلسفة إذ أن علاقة الفلسفة بالعلم علاقة وثيقة ذلك إذا وضعنا في الاعتبار أن أكثر فلاسفة المسلمين كانوا علماء بالإضافة إلى كونهم فلاسفة، بل إن منهم من اشتهر بالعلم أكثر من اشتهاره بالفلسفة كالشيخ الرئيس ابن سينا فقد عرف قانونه أكثر من شفائه. كذلك يمكن أن ندخل في إطار الفلسفة محوراً مهماً يمثل عند البعض الفلسفة الإسلامية الحقة أقصد به علم الكلام، فما هو هذا العلم؟
