ما زالت العلوم الإسلاميّة تحافظ على أصالتها وحيويّتها، رغم التحديّات العصريّة الكبيرة، ورغم التطوّر العلميّ الهائل الذي شهده القرن الأخير، وما زال طلاب العلوم الإسلاميّة يسعون لدراسة الفكر الإسلاميّ، وهم محتاجون في فهم الشريعة، وفهم القرآن الكريم، وفهم التراث الإسلاميّ إلى عددٍ من العلوم الإسلاميّة، مّا يستدعي أن يبذلوا قصارى جهدهم، وأن يمضوا سنيناً من حياتهم في سبيل هذا الهدف.
وبعد اتساع نطاق هذه العلوم وتشعّبها أصبح من الضروريّ جدّاً وجود ما يقدّم لمحةً كلية عن العلوم الإسلاميّة، بذكر مقدّمات كلّ علم، وتاريخ وأسباب نشوئه، وتطوّره، والمنهج المتّبع فيه، وأهمّ أبحاثه وكتبه والعلماء المؤسّسين له، ومدى الحاجة إليه والاستفادة منه، وقد اصطلح على هذا النحو من المعرفة اسم: مداخل العلوم الإسلاميّة.
وقد قسّم هذا الكتاب إلى دروس توزعت على الشكل التالي: الدرس الأول: "ما هو علم الكلام؟"، الدرس الثاني: "أسماء علم الكلام وسبب التسمية"، الدرس الثالث: "أهميّة علم الكلام ومرتبته بين العلوم"، الدرس الرابع: "ضرورة علم الكلام"، الدرس الخامس: "نشأة علم الكلام"، الدرس السادس: "نشأة علم الكلام (2)"، الدرس السابع: "نماذج من المسائل الكلاميّة"، الدرس الثامن: "متكلّمو الشيعة (1)"، الدرس التاسع: "متكلمو الشيعة (2)".
