يقدم لنا هذا الكتاب، للدكتور حسين غباش، باحث وكاتب من الإمارات العربية المتحدة، نظام الإمامة الإسلامية في عمان، وهي تجربة حكم انفردت باستئناف العمل بنظام الشورى القائم على مبدأ الإجماع والتعاقد، بعد دولة الخلافة، وامتدت أكثر من ألف عام وهي لذلك تمثل المرجعية التاريخية الوحيدة لنظام (الديمقراطية العربية الإسلامية).
وعليه، فإن دراسة هذه التجربة الاستثنائية، خصائصها الفكرية والسياسية، نشأتها المبكرة، ومقومات استمرارها، هي مساهمة خاصة في الفكر العربي الإسلامي. كما أن عمق هذا البحث -الذي استغرق عشرة أعوام من العمل- وتشعبه ومنهجيته وسفره الطويل في الفكر والتاريخ الإسلامي المبكر، ومن بعده في التاريخ العماني، يقدم لنا قراءة جادة ومعمقة لتاريخ هذه المنطقة، ويلقي الضوء الكافي على حقيقة هذه التجربة الإسلامية الهامة والمجهولة.
وأخيراً، لا بد من التذكير بأن الهدف الأساسي من هذا العمل هو تقديم دراسة معمقة عن التجربة الإسلامية في عمان، كنظام حكم وكتراث ديمقراطي عربي إسلامي. وفي هذا السياق سنعرض آراء الإباضيين المتعلقة بمسألة التحكيم في صفين (37هـ/657م) وخروج الخوارج، التي تختلف مع آراء المذاهب الأخرى، السنية والشيعية، على حد سواء. لكن هذه الآراء، مثل غيرها من مسائل الخلاف المذهبية الثانوية، يجب أن لا تحجب رؤيتنا لأهمية التجربة الإسلامية العمانية، من حيث هي تجربة رائدة بكل المقاييس، ومن حيث هي أيضاً ملك لكل مسلم.
