هذا الكتاب يروي كيف إستطاع الإسلام السياسي في تركيا الوصول إلى سُدة الحكم بعد سبعة عقود ونيف من إعلان كمال أتاتورك للجمهورية التركية عام 1923، وإلغاء الخلافة الإسلامية عام 1924.
قام أتاتورك بتغريب المجتمع التركي، وربط تركيا بالغرب وتنكر للتاريخ والجغرافيا وعمل على فصل الأجيال التركية عن تاريخها العثماني، فرض القبعة بدلاً من الطربوش وفرض السفور على النساء وابتعد عن القيم الإسلامية وسن القوانين تحت ذريعة تحرير المرأة، وهي أقرب للإباحة منها للقوانين الغربية، حتى التي تبناها فطلبت الطلاق منه، وفرض رفع الآذان باللغة التركية، وفرض الحروف اللاتينية لكتابة اللغة التركية بدلاً من الحروف العربية التي كانت تكتب بها.
ثار علماء الدين والصوفية عليه بعد أن كشف عن وجهه الحقيقي، خُدع الأتراك ببطولاته حتى أن أمير الشعراء أحمد شوقي قد خدع به عند إنتصاراته على اليونانيين، فوصفه بخالد التركي، ولكن عند رثاء إلغاء الخلافة تآسف على مدحه له، وكيف أنه هدم ركناً من التاريخ الإسلامي استمر في جمع المسلمين تحت مظلته.
إن الفصل الأول من الكتاب يتناول جذور العلمانية في تركيا ودور اليهود في بروز العلمانية والقومية التركية، وكيف كانت سالونيك مركز النشاط بين الماسونية واليهودية في نشر التغريب ومفاهيم العلمانية، والتأثر بالفكر الغربي والثقافة الفرنسية.
وتكشف الدراسة عن المصالح الغربية وعن الشبهات حول أصل أتاتورك، وعلامات الإستفهام حول صعوده في سن مبكرة إلى مراكز عسكرية بينما كان هناك من هم أكثر منه خبرة ورتب عسكرية وتاريخ عسكري مجيد ثم كيف تمت تصفية معارضية؟...
أما الفصل الثاني، فيتناول كيف حافظت الجماعات الصوفية على أن يبقى الإسلام حياً في نفوس الشعب التركي رغم الإضطهاد والإعدام، عندما أعدم الشيخ سعيد بيرن، الجماعات الصوفية حافظت على الإسلام في تركيا ومارست نشاطها سراً وعلانية، ونجحت في ذلك نجاحاً كبيراً من النقشبندية والسليمانية والنورسية حتى أصبح السياسيون بحاجة إليهم في الإنتخابات البرلمانية.
