عندما تعنون زينب حفني روايتها بـ "هل أتاك حديثي؟" فبالتأكيد هي تقصد الرجل هذا الرجل الذي تتحدث عنه الرواية هو الرجل الشرقي، أما المرأة التي تقصد فهي تلك المحكومة بالانتقال من إحباط إلى آخر، يرسم الرجل مصيرها، وتتحكم العادات والتقاليد بمستقبلها، ولا يتبقى لها سوى الحكي، الأمر الذي تقوم به الروائية بالوكالة عن شخصيات الرواية، وبالأصالة عن نفسها. تقول زينب حفني: "...حكايات المرأة العربية، مصرية كانت أو سعودية، من خلال حكايتين اثنتين هما الأطول في الرواية؛ حكاية فائزة راوية الأحداث، وحكاية صفاء ابنة خالتها، ومن خلال حكايات أخرى متوسطة أو قصيرة، كحكايات فاطمة والخادمة شريفة والطبيبة النفسية. وفي جميع هذه الحكايات، تبدو المرأة في موقع الضحية، يقع عليها الظلم من الرجل، أو الهيئة الاجتماعية، أو القانون، أو الأعراف والتقاليد، أو القدر، على أن المرأة قد تكون شريكة في الظلم، والرجل قد يكون هو الضحية. وبالتالي معيار التمييز بين الجلاد والضحية، بين الظالم والمظلوم، ليس معياراً جنسياً، بل معيار عقلية ذكورية موجودة عند الجنسين". وعليه/ تكون زسنب حفني في هذه الرواية قد حاولت من موقع المرأة/ الكاتبة الابحار في الشرايين التي توصل قلب المرأة بعقلها، وعاطفتها برغباتها، وحريتها بحياتها، بدلاً من احتجازها في قيود المجتمع وأطره التقليدية فلا تبارح ذلك "كأنهن النبات ينمو ويذبل في إنائه" كما يقول ابن رشد.
