لم أقصد من وراء نشر مذكراتي هذه تنديداً بالأشخاص أو الحط من كراماتهم، وإنما وددت أن أحتفظ إلى الأجيال القادمة بتاريخ فترة- نحمد الله إنها قصيرة!- مرت بالعراق فكادت تهد كيانه وتضيع آماله وتخيب أمانيه. فترة قتلت الحرية فيها باسم الحرية وسلب الأمن باسم إعادة الأمن وهتكت الأعراض باسم الشرف، وأسرفت الأموال باسم الحرص على الأموال، ونضبت خزينة الدولة بالتباكي والرثاء على المصلحة العامة.فترة أضعنا فيها خير رجالنا فكانوا ضحايا حركة أثيمة ومجازفة طائشة، فترة أسدل فيها الستار على الكفاءة والمقدرة والإخلاص فساد فيها الجهل عارياً. فترة تشرد فيها أخلص رجال العراق وأجدرهم بالحكم وألبقهم بالسياسة وأقدرهم على العمل فحل مكانهم جهل قائم وطموح أعمى ورعونة هوجاء! ففي بدء تلك الفترة القاسية قتل العسكري غدراً ومات الهاشمي كمداً واغتيل ضياء يونس ظلماً ومات الزكي مهموماً كئيباً.
