هذا الكتاب الثاني من مجموعة "ديوان الأساطير" يطرح المواضيع الرئيسية التالية: البدء والأصول، وعرض قصص التكوين والخلق في ما بين النهرين التي سبقت تحفة النظر الشاملة في: قصيدة التكوين والخلق البابلية، مُكرِّسةً ارتقاء الإله مردوك ومردّدةً أسماءَه الخمسين تمجيداً له. قصيدة الفائق الحكمة وقصة إنقاذ البشر من الطوفان: وتروي تاريخ البشرية من الخليقة حتى الطوفان، وهذا النص هو في أساس الموضوعات التي تأثّرت بها التوراة. الثواب والعقاب في انطباقه على الآلهة وعلى الملوك والمدن. مسرحية البكاء على خراب سومر ومدينة نفّر: وهو أقدم نص عن المسرح الديني السومري الذي سبق المسرح الاغريقي بألف عام. العادل المعذّب والعدالة الإلهية: وهو في أساس قصة أيوب التوراتية. الصعود إلى سماء الآلهة، في كلٍّ من مغامرتَيْ أدابا الحكيم وإيتانا الذي صعد إلى السماء على جناح نسر، ونبلِ سعيه.
