يتناول الكتاب بالتوثيق والتحليل الفترة التي تمتد من خلع الرئيس الأسبق حسني مبارك في 11 فبراير 2011 وحتى قبل أيام من عزل الرئيس السابق محمد مرسي، حيث يوثق أحداث العنف التي وقعت في هذه الفترة بدءا من فض اعتصام ميدان التحرير في 26 فبراير 2011 حتى أحداث مكتب الإرشاد مرورا باعتصام 8 أبريل وأحداث ماسبيرو ومجلس الوزراء وأحداث المقطم الأولى والثانية وأحداث محمد محمود الأولى والثانية ومجزرتي بورسعيد الأولى والثانية، وغيرها. ينقسم الكتاب إلى 4 فصول، الفصل الأول يؤرخ لأحداث العنف التي شهدتها مصر بعد ثورة 25 يناير ويحدد تطوراتها والمسؤولين عنها ورودود الأفعال التي ظهرت بشأنها حتى لا تضيع الحقائق أو تتبدل مع مرور الزمان وتلاحق الأحداث، أما الفصل الثاني فيتناول بالتحليل فترة حكم المجلس العسكري برئاسة المشير حسين طنطاوي وأسباب فشل الفترة الانتقالية والأخطاء التي تسببت في ذلك. أما الفصل الثالث فيحمل عنوان «الإخوان على مقعد مبارك» ويتناول الفترة التي قضاها الإخوان في السلطة سواء أثناء حصولهم على الأغلبية البرلمانية، أو السنة التي تولى فيها الدكتور محمد مرسي رئاسة الجمهورية، و«إدارتهم البلاد بنفس طريقة مبارك، وتجاهلهم كل النصائح، وإصرارهم على إقصاء معارضيهم، ومحاولتهم تطويع المؤسسات الأمنية والإعلامية والقضائية»، حسبما أورد الكاتب. الفصل الأخير «سيناريوهات للمستقبل» يتحدث عن السيناريوهات المتوقع حدوثها في المستقبل، ومستقبل التحالفات السياسية، والموجات المتوقعة للثورة.
