هل جربت أن تدخل غرفة في بيتك وتغلق الباب عليك لعدة أيام وتخرج ساعة واحدة فقط خلال 24 ساعة؟ هل جربت أن تجلس في مكان ما لا ترى فيه أسرتك لأسبوعين متتاليين؟ هل جربت أن تستيقظ من نومك ولا تتناول طعام الإفطار وتعود من عملك دون أن تتناول الغداء وتذهب إلى النوم دون عشاء؟
المسألة عصية على الفهم فعلا، من الصعب أن تقنع أحدا اعتاد على منافقة رئيسه في العمل وقبول صفعة من الضابط في الكمين بصدر رحب ودفع فاتورة الكهرباء دون السؤال عن سبب الزيادة ورشوة أمين الشرطة حتى لا يحرر له مخالفة، أن معهم على نفس الكوكب شبابًا لا يقايضون الخبز بالكرامة، يقبلون بالسجن والتخوين والتغريب ويمتنعون عن الطعام بإرادتهم للمطالبة بالحرية لغيرهم وبحكم رشيد عادل لوطنهم.
لا تبذل جهدا لإقناع مثل هؤلاء بعدالة قضية المضربين عن الطعام، هم في قرارة نفسهم يعرفون أنهم أفضل منهم، ولذلك يتعلقون بقشة التمويل الأجنبي والانحلال الأخلاقي للسجناء حتى لا يكونون مضطرين لمساندتهم أو الاعتراف بأنهم عاجزون عن دفع ثمن لحرية غيابها بالنسبة لهم أهون من دفع ثمنها الباهظ الذي يدفعه نيابة عنهم هؤلاء القابعون في السجون.
إياك أن تدخل معهم في نقاش من نوعية «لا يوجد دليل واحد علي تلقي النشطاء تمويلا من الخارج» أو أن «السجناء يملكون كل مقومات الحياة الكريمة خارج السجن ولكنهم اختاروه مكرهين قربانا للحرية»، فهؤلاء أحفاد من لم يلوموا على الملك ولا على ضعف الجيش ولا على انتهازية بريطانيا عندما احتلت مصر عام 1882، بل بصقوا على عرابي لأنه طالب بالحرية فجاءهم بالاحتلال.
