قد عمدنا إلى ترجمة هذا العمل لأهميته في مجال الكتابات البلاغية الحديثة، فقد استطاع بارت في هذه الدراسة أ، يخرج البلاغة من "سوادها"، ليجعل منها بلاغة "بيضاء" وذلك من خلال إعادة كتابة تاريخها عن طريق مصطلحات بنيوية وسيميائية، دون إهمال الجانب التعليمي والمعلوماتي، مضيفاً إلى ذلك نزعته الشبقية في الكتابة، مما يجعل هذه القراءة الجديدة للبلاغة "بلاغة" في حد ذاتها. غير أن موت البلاغة لم يمت موتاً حقيقياً، وإنما "نصف موت"، أو بعبارة أدق "نوم" فقد استطاعت البلاغة أن تستيقظ، وتكتسب الساحة بقوة أكبر مما كانت عليه في عصرها الذهبي (اليوناني والروماني)، إلى درجة صارت تبدو معها مثل موضة (أو تعبير عن الحداثة)، ويرجع الفضل في هذا التحول إلى محاولات مجموعة من الباحثين أمثال: فاليري (في فرنسا)، ريتشاردز أوغدن (في ألمانيا)، وبعد ذلك توالت التأليفات، وذلك نتيجة التطور الذي عرفته بعض الفروع المعرفية المجاورة لهذا الحقل، وذلك نتيجة التطور الذي عرفته بعض الفروع المعرفية المجاورة لهذا الحقل، وذلك مثل اللسانيات، والسيميائيات، والتداوليات، والشعريات، المنطقيات، وغيرها، لتظهر أسماء لامعة: شارل بيرلمان، رولان بارت، جيرار جنيت، تزفيتان تودوروف، جون كوهن، بول ريكو، كيبيدي فارجا، وغيرهم.
