إن إعجاز القرآن هي صفة ملازمة له عبر العصور والأجيال، وهي صفة يدركها العرب في الجاهلية بذوقه الفطري كعمر رضي الله عنه أو الوليد، أو يدركها بالتذوق العلمي كما فعل الجاحظ في منهجه الذي رسمه لمن جاء بعده. ولكن المسلم اليوم قد فقد فطرة العربي الجاهلي وإمكانيات عالم اللغة في العصر العباسي، وعلى الرغم من هذا فإن القرآن لم يفقد بذلك جانب (الإعجاز) لأنه ليس من توابعه بل من جوهره، وإنما أصبح المسلم مضطراً إلى أن يتناوله في صورة إخرى وبوسائل أخرى، فهو يتناول الآية من جهة تركيبها النفسي الموضوعي، أكثر مما يتناولها من ناحية العبارة، فيطبق في دراسة مضمونها طرقاً للتحليل الباطن، كما حاول المفكر مالك بن نبي تطبيقها في هذا الكتاب. وإذا كانت هذه الضرورة ملحّة عند بن نبي بالنسبة للمسلم، الذي حاول تعقيد عقيدته على أساس إدراك شخصي لقيمة القرآن بوصفه كتاباً منزلاً، فإنها، لديه، تبدو أكثر إلحاحاً بالنسبة لغير المسلم الذي يتناول القرآن بوصفه موضوع دراسة أو مطالعة، فهذه هي في مجملها الأسباب التي دعت مالك بن نبي إلى تطبيق التحليل النفسي خاصة لدراسة القرآن بوصفه ظاهرة.
