تُسمَّى المرأة الغريبة بلفظة "أجنبيّة" في البلدان العربيّة. وتجري أحداث رواية "أجنبية في سيارة حمراء" للكاتبة الأوكرانية مارينا هريميتش في لبنان الحديث، الشهير بتعدّده الطائفي وتنوعه، وفيها قواسم مشتركة كثيرة مع قصص القرون الوسطى المستمدّة من "ألف ليلة وليلة". في وسط الحبكة الروائية نلتقي بأجنبيتين أوكرانيتين، الأولى بافلينا المتزوّجة من أحمد السنّي المذهب، والثانية فيرا زوجة جواد الشيعي المذهب، التي تاخذ على عاتقها مساعدة جواد في التفاهم مع زوجته اللبنانية، لكنها تختفي فجأة، فتبدأ عملية البحث عنها، والتي يشارك فيها أحمد وبافلينا، وينضمّ إليهما بشكل غير متوقع الدرزي الغامض زياد. فتجوب الأجنبية بسيارتها الحمراء جميع المناطق اللبنانية. كُتبت الرواية بحسّ فكاهي مرهف، يساهم في تقديم ميسّر لتفاصيل حياتية للزواج بين الأعراق في الشرق الأوسط، ويكشف عن جوانب من أسرار التفاهم والتواصل بين الطوائف والثقافات المختلفة.
