إنها قصة من تلك القصص التي قد نظن أنها نتاج خيال الكاتبة، لكنها في الواقع إحدى القصص الحقيقية التي خلّفها لنا التاريخ، تذكُر بوستورينو، وهي تهيئ لروايتها، أنها علمت بأنّ إحدى ذائقات طعام هتلر لا تزال على قيد الحياة، وأنها كشفت عن سرّها وهي في التسعين من العمر، وبذلك أرادت لهذه الرواية أن تكون تكريماً لها.
في خريف عام 1943، كان هتلر منعزلاً في "وكر الذئب"، ملجئه الواقع في بروسيا الشرقية، مُحاطاً بدائرة من الأتباع الأوفياء، ومحروساً بحامية غفيرة من القوات الخاصة، وخوفاً من أن يُدسّ له السم في الطعام، وظّف قسراً عشر نساء ليتذوّقن طعامه قبل أن يُقدّم له.
من بين هؤلاء الذائقات نجد الراوية، شابة برلينية تُدعى روزا، اعتُبر زوجها في عداد المفقودين في الحرب، وفضلاً عن مهمّتها الصعبة التي فُرضت عليها وعلى رفيقاتها، وهي محنة تحكيها من الداخل، كانت حالتها حرجة: لقد وقع الملازم زيغلر في غرامها، أمّا هي، فوجدت نفسها تشعر تجاهه بمشاعر متناقضة من المتعذّر أن تعترف بها حتى لنفسها.
تصوّر لنا هذه الرواية الآسرة، الفائزة بمثاني جوائز من بينها جائزة كامبييلو الإيطالية المرموقة، غريزة البقاء، وتسبر خفايا العلاقات، وتُسائل معنى الحب والصمود. رواية رائعة تجمع بين القوة والرهافة، رواية لا تُنسى.
