تجد المرأة نفسسها في مجتمعنا أمام اختيارات تتيحها أفكار التحرر النسوي من ناحية، وأفكار أخرى تخص العادات والتقاليد والموروث الثقافي والديني من ناحية أخرى. فيكون عليها أن تسأل نفسها بصدق: ما الذي أريده حقًا؟ وما هو الاختيار الذي أشعر معه بالراحة؟ تبدو هذه التساؤلات سهلة وبسيطة، ولكنها ليست هكذا أبدًا في الواقع. فالمرأة إن اختارت أفكار التحرر، ستجد أحيانًا مقاومة ورفضًا من العادات والتقاليد والعرف، وستجد نفسها تتحمل أعباءً مضاعفة في حياتها لتعدد الأدوار التي تقوم بها. وإن اختارت اختيارًا متوافقًا مع الموروث الثقافي السائد، ستحمل وصم أنها ضد التحرر أو أنها "متخلفة" و"تابعة".الكتاب محاولة لنقاش أفكار التحرر النسوي في العصر الحالي استنادًا إلى كتب هامة في مجال الحركة النسوية بطريقة تشرح الأفكار عن طريق أمثلة من المنتجات الثقافية الجماهيرية. في هذا الكتاب، سأحاول مناقشة فرضيات التحرر النسوي والكشف عن مدى الاستغلال الذي تعرضت له هذه الحركات من قبل النظام الرأسمالي حتى تحولت هذه الحركات إلى نقيض التحرر. كما سأحاول البحث في مدى صدق هذه الأفكار في المجتمعات خارج المركز الأوروبي مع التركيز على بعض المجتمعات ومنتجاتها الثقافية.
