إذا كان سقراط قد رأى أن المرأة مصدر كل شر، وأفلاطون صنفها مع العبيد والأشرار والمخبولين والمرضى، وديكارت ربط العقل بالذكر والمادة بالأنثى، وكانط قلل من شأن القدرات العقلية للمرأة، وروسو ربط وجود المرأة بالجنس والإنجاب فقط، وشوبنهور قال "تبقى المرأة كالطفل طيلة حياتها" وأنها "كالحيوان لها شعر طويل وأفكار قصيرة.. ولو كانت الحياة إمرأة لهربت منها". فلماذا نظر معظم الفلاسفة إلى المرأة تلك النظرة الدونية؟ أين نساء الفلسفة؟ أين الفيلسوفات؟ هل توجد نساء فيلسوفات؟ لماذا تولى الرجال السلطة الفلسفية؟ وهل الفسلفة ذات طابع ذكوري حقاً؟ وهل الرجل هو الفاعل الوحيد للفلسفة؟
اهتمت النسوية بتفنيد الإدعاءات الخاصة بأن المرأة متقلبة، وسلبية، وانفعالية، وليس لها أي إنتاج حقيقي في الفلسفة أو العلم أو الفن، وطرحت برامج واستفسارات متنوعة حول أسباب ظلم المرأة وتهميش دورها- وأعلنت رفضها لكل صور الهيمنة والظلم والقهر والقمع، والاستبداد، وإعادة الاعتبار للمرأة.
