كُتبت هذه الرواية للآخرين، وليس للقراء المحافظين أو المتحفظين. فهي في هذا الإطار قد تكون صادمة لكثير من القراء. لكنها مثيرة للفضول في كل الأحوال. هي رواية تنتمي إلى القرن الحادي والعشرين، وإلى قراء متحررين. هي اعترافات امرأة من خلفية برجوازية، وفيها دم عربي ودم غربي، أميركي. امرأة متحررة جدًّا، لكنها لا تنسى أنها تعيش في مجتمع. وهذا الصراع بين الانطلاق الذاتي بلا إحساس بالقيود، وشبح المجتمع الذي يؤمن بقيم، يؤرقها ويعكر حياتها.
إن الفكرة الأساسية التي يحوم حولها موضوع الرواية هي جمال المرأة الخارق، وما سيترتب عليه. وهذا انطلاقًا من مقولة أناتول فرانس: «الجمال هو أعظم قوة على وجه الأرض». من هذه الخلفية، ومن خلفية أخرى وهي قول جان بول سارتر: «الجميلات هن بين أن يكن برجوازيات أو بنات هوى»، نشأت لدى الكاتب فكرة الرواية.
فأي مصير متذبذب أو متناقض سيكون للجمال؟
إنها اعترافات امرأة استدرجت إلى ركوب مغامرة جنونية، من دون أن تدري. لكن هذه النزوة لم تنل من مكانتها. فلقد ظلت متألقة في عالمها، وموضع حب وإعجاب بين الناس الذين تتحرك ضمن دائرتهم، على الرغم من أنها ستظل تمارس احساسًا قاتلًا بالندم عن نزوتها.
والرواية، إلى جانب ذلك، بانوراما شيقة في أحداثها وأفكارها.
