"وأنا لا أحب أن أتزين، أو أستعمل الماكياج، لكنه أحب أن يراني متزينة، بشكل صارخ، مومسي، كما اقترح. قال: "أريدك، يا حبيبتي، أن تتصرفي في اللقاء القادم كمومس". فاستجبت له، واشتريت في الطريق إليه أدوات زينة. وفي غرفة الفندق بدأت أتزين، لأول مرة في حياتي، وهو ينظر إليَّ، ويقول: "أكثر، أكثر، يا حبيبتي، كوني بغياً رخيصة. إغ، ما أجمل ذلك!" وأنا أضحك، وأقول له: "إلى أي درك أنزلتني، يا جون". فيقول: "إن في تحقيق النزوات لسعادة، لا تفوقها سعادة". ثم قلت له، وأنا لا أدري كيف واتتني الفكرة: "إعطني، إذن، عشرين أو خمسين جنيهاً، بعد أن تقضي وطرك معي، لكي أشعر أنني مومس!" فقال: "عظيم، سأنقدك خمسين جنيهاً، لكي تشعري أنك مارست البغاء ممارسة حقيقية، وليست رمزية". أوه، يا إلهي، هل تعلم أمي بذلك كله عن شهرزادها الطاهرة، البريئة براءة الأطفال والملائكة؟ وهل يعلم أبي بذلك؟ أنا أستحق كل الازدراء بعد أن كنت منيعة على السقوط. لكنني سقطت كأرخص ما يكون السقوط. لأجل ذلك، لا أعتقد أنني أستطيع أن أتساهل مع زلتي. أنا فتاة من طراز سوبر نسائي رفيع في كافة المواصفات والمؤهلات، ثم هبطت إلى مستوى البغايا الرخيصات. لذلك لا أستحق أن يُرَدّ إليَّ اعتباري بعد زلتي".
