قبل عامين كانت الثورات في العالم العربي لا تخطر في البال، وحتى أنها كانت شيئًا يستعصي على الأحلام، لكن هذا الأمر بات حقيقة ماثلة أمامنا، وعلى حين غرّة، إذ احتلت الثورات الشوارع والميادين، والاهتمامات اليومية، والتحركات السياسية، وشاشات الفضائيات.
مع ذلك فإن قيام ثورة ما لا يعني بداهةً حلّ كل المشكلات السياسية والاقتصادية والاجتماعية والثقافية، للمجتمع المعني دفعة واحدة، لأن الثورات ليست مجرّد عملية انقلابية، وإنما هي مجرّد فتح لعملية تاريخية طويلة، مع التأكيد أنها ربّما تتعرّض لنكسات وتراجعات.
هذا يعني أن الثورات هي عملية صعبة ومعقّدة وطويلة، وأنها تحتاج إلى مواكبة نقدية جدية ومسؤولة، فالثورة ليست بمثابة عملية انقلابية تغيّر في أسابيع أو في أشهر واقعًا له من العمر عدة عقود، وربما عدة قرون.
هذا يفيد، أيضًا، بأن الثورات الشعبية الحاصلة في بعض بلداننا تعتورها عديد المشكلات والنواقص والمخاوف والتحديات، لكنها مع ذلك بمثابة طريق لا بد من ولوجه لكسر حلقة الاستعصاء التي يمثلها الاستبداد، من أجل الدخول في التاريخ، وقيام المواطن والمجتمع والدولة حقًّا في البلدان المعنية، هذا ما تقوله تجارب الثورات التي حدثت عبر التاريخ.
إن مواد هذا الكتاب كانت نشرت، خلال العامين الماضيين، في الصحف والمجلات التالية: "الحياة"، و"المستقبل" (ملحق نوافذ)، ومجلة "شؤون عربية"، وموقع "الجزيرة نت"، وهي الفترة التي تأثّرت فيها بقيامة الشعوب العربية، وحضورها بقوة على مسرح التاريخ، لأول مرة في التاريخ.
وقد حرص المؤلف على تبويب هذا المواد حسب موضوعاتها، كي يأتي مناسبة لإصدارها في كتاب، مع قيامه بإجراء بعض التعديلات عليها، وهي تعديلات شكلية، الغرض منها حذف التكرارات، وتغيير في الصياغات.
