لقد أوْلى محمد النّاصر صدّيقي اهتمامه إلى مجالات بحثٍ لم يكُن التوغُّل فيها إلى حدِّ الآن عميقًا في جامعتنا.
وأتاح له هذا الاتِّجاه الاطِّلاع على بعض ما انبثق ضمن الأنثروبولوجيا التاريخيّة من دراساتٍ وجهود نظرية ونتائجَ تطبيقيّة.
وكانت متابعة الملتقيات المختصَّة مساعِدةً على تأسيس مقاربةٍ مبتكرة للنظر في الطقوس والعقائد والمتصوِّرات الذهنيّة للمجتمعات على امتداد فترة طويلة من تاريخها.
ويظلُّ انشغال الباحث الأساسي هو من دون نزاع المسائل الموصولة بمواضيع "الروحانية" وبشكل عام الأديان الخارجَة عن المألوف في الشرق في القرون الأولى التالية للإسلام، وينضوي في دائرة الاهتمام التأثير الذي مارَسَته الأديان السابقة للإسلام، والفلسفة اليونانية وخصوصًا الأفلاطونية والعقائد التوحيديَّة القديمة التي سادت في المنطقة.
إنّ هذا الإرث العقائدي مثل "مِهادا" احتضن ميلاد الأديان التي نهلت منه في القرنين الثالث والرابع ميلادي، وانتهج منهجًا "حفرانيًّا" مكّن من التوغُّل في الجذور البعيدة أو العميقة لهذه الأديان والعقائد، وقد شُغِف الباحث بهذا القطاع من البحث فأقبَلَ على النبش والتنقيب فيه مقلِّبًا ورافعًا غطاء النسيان والإهمال.
وإنها لمشكلة جوهريّة هذه التي انكبَّ عليها، فعلى امتداد كلّ العصور والحِقب وفي كلّ الحضارات بدأ الإنسان مسكونًا بهاجس الحياة الأبديَّة أو الحياة ما بعد الموت، وتجاوبت كلّ الأديان، التوحيدي منها والوثني لهذه الأسئلة الغيبيَّة وقدَّمت للبشر عقائد عن الانبعاث اطمأنّوا إليها ووجدوا فيها معنى. وارتقى الإنسان بهذه الأجوبة التي استقاها من عقائده إلى اكتساب كينونة ميّزته عن الحيوان بأن جعَلتْه كائنًا جوهره الروح.
