يبدأ هذا البحث التاريخي الفريد بتمحيص ونقد أهم المصادر والمراجع العربية والأجنبية التي تناولت الفرق بعامة، واليزيدية بخاصة، ويلي ذلك النظر في الإطار الجغرافي والتاريخي لليزيدية، من الفتح الإسلامي للمناطق الكردية إلى المذاهب المسيحية والشيعية فيها. ثم يقدم هذا البحث حفرياته في ديانات بلاد ما بين النهرين وإيران والأناضول، ليؤسس للفكر المهدوي والإنقاذي في شخص المنقذين المهديين الهاشمي والسفياني.
بتحديد القول في اليزيدية، يتناول هذا البحث مرحلة التأسيس في الأسرة العدوية الأموية وخلفاء الشيخ عدي الأكبر، ومسار العدوية بين الهرطقة والطموح السياسي في مشيخة الحسن بن عدي. وإثر ذلك ينكب المؤلف على نشأة النحلة اليزيدية وطقوسها العقائدية والدينية، وصلة هذه الطقوس بالموروث الشعبي، ويصف المؤلف الطبقات الاجتماعية والدينية والأعياد والمحرمات اليزيدية، كما يثبت أدعيتهم وكتبهم المقدسة، عدا عن الصور الموثقة والشارحة.
لقد تعددت النظريات حول اليزيدية، لكنها لم تعط سوى تأويلات جزئية، إلى أن جاء هذا الكتاب كما يقتضي البحث العلمي الرصين.
