.. من هنا جاء احتفائي الشديد بالدراسة التي أنجزها المثقف القدير الباحث محمد بن عبدالله السيف، إنها دراسة ضافية وشاملة ومفصّلة ودقيقة، وقد بذل فيها من الجهد والاهتمام ما يستحق عليه التقدير والتنويه، وقد صدرت الدراسة بعنوان: (عبدالله الطريقي: صخور النفط ورمال السياسة). لقد شعرتُ بالراحة وأحسستُ بالرضا وأنا اقرأ هذا الكتاب الحافل، لأنه يرفع عنا بعضاً من عبء العقوق، فالطريقي رغم اختلافنا معه في بعض المواقف والرؤى إلا أننا نؤمن بأنه نزيه في مواقفه، مجتهد في رؤاه، وقد ناضل من أجلنا، ويجب أن نحفظ له فضله وأن نعيد التذكير بجهده وأن نربي الأجيال على الوفاء له ولأمثاله من الذين كافحوا من أجل هذا الوطن. إننا نمارس عقوقاً فظيعاً بحق الأفذاذ من رجالنا الرواد، ولكي تدرك فداحة الخلل في تقييمنا لأعمال الرجال تخيَّل لو كان الطريقي شاعراً كم دراسة أكاديمية صدرت عنه وكم بحث وكم أطروحة!!!؟
لذلك يتضاعف الاحتفاء بالعمل التاريخي الجاد والمنصف الذي يقوم به الكاتب المؤرخ محمد السيف لأنه ذاتياً من دون اضطرار ولا بحث عن مكافأة أو شهادة أو ترقية. لقد اهتم بجوانب أهملها الدارسون مع أنها الأكثر أهمية، لأنها ذات تأثير مباشر بحاضرنا وبمستقبل أجيالنا...

يتحلى الأخ السيف بروح مرحة في كتابه هذا. شخصيته واضحة لا يسمح للشخصيات الواردة في كتابه أن تلغيه. فهو يقول بين الحين والآخر رأيه، وإن كان هذا قليلاً، إلا أن موضوعيته واضحة، فهو لا ينحاز إلا للصدق والحق. هذا الصنيع صعب لأنه دائماً يتعارض مع شخصية المترجم له. فالأخ السيف محبٌ ومعجبٌ بالطريقي، وهو يقول أنه مأخوذ بهذه الشخصية منذ صغره. وهو يقول أنه يمت بصلة قرابة، وهو يقول أن الطريقي يُشكل عنده نجاح لأسرته، وربما لبلدته. ومع هذا فإنه لايتردد في إثبات بعض الأخطاء والإخفاقات في السيرة متى ما وجدها، ورآها جديرة بالتدوين.
