"شهرزاد والكلام المباح" قراءة في الرواية النسوية أراد المؤلف من خلالها أن يقدم قراءته النقدية للأدب النسائي في الرواية العربية. يقول المؤلف: "شهرزاد والكلام المباح" ليس أنطولوجيا روائية أنثوية، ولا يدّعي هذا الشرف، بل هو قراءات في ثمانٍ وثلاثين رواية نسوية، لثلاث وثلاثين روائية عربية، مشهورة أو مغمورة، حصلت على مدى عقدٍ ونيف، ونُشرت في صحف النهار والحياة والسفير والأنوار. لأجل ذلك، جاء الكتاب كحصيلة "نوع من النظر النقدي، المستند إلى خلفية معرفية نظرية وممارسة تطبيقية، في مقاربة النص الروائي. وهذا النوع ينطلق من النص نفسه، ويحاول أن يتقرّى ما ينطوي عليه أو يشي به، من دلالات ومحمولات وإشارات، سواء على مستوى الحكاية أو الخطاب. ولا يُسقط عليه مناهج ونظريات نقدية تقسره على الخضوع لها، بشكل أو بآخر، وتقوّله ما لا يقول أو تصادر حقه في الانفتاح على قراءات متعددة ومختلفة". ويعتبر الكاتب أن مادة الكتاب، تسعى إلى الجمع بين الجدية والرصانة، من جهة، والسلاسة وسهولة المأخذ، من جهة ثانية؛ وهي مادة لا تمارس وصاية نقدية على القارئ، ولا تصادر حقه المشروع في قراءة خاصة، وتحاول إضاءة النص وجسر الفجوة الإبداعية بين المبدع والمتلقي. إن مادة الكتاب تتعاطى مع مصطلح "الرواية النسوية" بقدرٍ من المرونة؛ فهي لا تقصره على قضايا المرأة الحصرية كأنثى في مجتمع ذكوري، بل تتعدى ذلك لتشمل ما يصدر عن المرأة ويعنيها كإنسان كما يعني الرجل، على حدّ سواء. ويضم الكتاب مجموعة واسعة من الموضوعات ذات الطابع النسوي الخاص أو الإنساني العام وهن نساء رائدات تركوا بصمة هامة في الأدب العربي الحديث كأحلام مستغانمي، أماني خليل، أمل بورتر، علوية صبيح، رجاء نعمة، مي منسّى، فضيلة الفاروق، منى فياض إلى آخر ذلك من أديبات احتوتها مادة الكتاب اعتمد المؤلف في ترتيبهم المعيار الهجائي لاسم الروائية، تجنباً للوقوع في فخ التقديم والتأخير الكيفيّين. "شهرزاد والكلام المباح" هي رؤية موضوعية جاءت كمساهمة نقدية أضاء بها المؤلف على الرواية النسوية، وللقارئ الحكم في نهاية الأمر.
