تبرز لغة الضمائر في شعرية سلمان زين الدين منذ عتبة العنوان الأولى (ضمائر منفصلة) فالضمائر تفعل فعلها حين تعجز اللغة عن قول المشاعر؛ وتقف حاجزاً بين ما يود الشاعر قوله، فكانت الضمائر هنا – في هذا النص – أداة تواصلية وربّ كناية تُربي على إفصاح، ولحْظٍ يدل على ضمير بعيد الغاية. يقول الشاعر في (عتبة): "هذي الضمائر، / منذ البدءِ ، تستترُ / طيَّ الضلوع، / ونور النشر تنتظرُ / واليوم، إذ تبصرُ / النور الذي انتظرتْ / فهل، تُراها، / بُعيد الطيِّ تنتشرُ؟". ولا تتوقف براعة الشاعر في استثماره لغة وإشارات الضمائر، بل يمتد بنصوصه تكثيفاً وثراءً بدلالات وإيحاءات أكثر عمقاً: "أجملُ العمر / ربيعٌ لا يطول، / كسحاب الصيف يمضي / ينشر الظل رقيقاً / فوق أزهار الحقول / فإذا أيقظها من نومها، / فوراً يزول". هكذا تتفتح المعاني في النص المكتوب وتزدهر، عبر نموذج يبدو أن سلمان زين الدين قد صنعه بنفسه، وتفرد به عن شعراء آخرين.
يضم الديوان قصائد في الشعر العربي الحديث، وأخرى في الشعر العربي الموزون والمقفى توزعت في الكتاب على ستة عناوين رئيسية هي: 1- أنا، 2- أنتِ، 3- هي، 4- أنت، 5- نحن، 6- هو أو هي (لغير العاقل).
