ماذا يقول "الشباب العرب" للعالم في العام 2013، لا شيء – أو أقلّه لا شيء يذكر – مما يُطلب منهم غالباً قوله أو يُعتقد بأنه سُمع منهم. من هنا الأهمية الكبرى لقراءة هذا الكتاب المكتوب بلغة سهلة قد تُمكّن اللواتي والذين يودّون التعرف بصورة أفضل إلى واقع المجتمعات التي تعيش منذ عام 2011 تقلبات لم يسبق لها مثيل.
"الشباب والعرب" كتاب يزخر، بادئ ذي بدء، بتجاوز الأحكام المسبقة المختزلة وغيرها من البداهات المغلوطة التي انتشرت منذ عام 2011، حين كان "الشباب العرب" مدعوين إلى إعطاء معنى "للربيع" الذي يتّصف بالصفة ذاتها ولجملة التحولات التي أطلقتها هذه المسارات الاحتجاجية. وفي الواقع، إن مراقبين كثراً قد تأثروا بارتكاسات قديمة تبسيطية اشد سوءاً من "تمجيد الشبابية". وكما هي الحال بالنسبة إلى الجندرة، غالباً ما ينحو متغير الأجيال إلى إرضاء "التفكير الرغبوي" لدى المراقبين.
غير أن الواقع يشي بغير ذلك، هذا ما يراه مؤلفو الكتاب. فالشباب العرب، بين بلد وآخر وبين شريحة اجتماعية وأخرى، يفتقرون إلى التجانس في أنماط عيشهم. وقد تتصف أوقات فراغهم بأنها انتهاكية، كتفحيط الشباب السعوديين بسياراتهم، واسترجال شقيقاتهم "البوية"، أو الجرأة الذكورية لدى الفتاة التونسية، أو التفلت من الضوابط لدى بعض الطالبات المغربيات.
بيد أن ثمة ما يفوق ذلك. فهؤلاء الشباب يرفضون تحجيمهم إلى مجرّد ردة وراثية. وغالباً ما يفضل الشباب – بصيغة الجمع طبعاً – إعادة تفسير موروثهم الاجتماعي والثقافي، وإعادة بنائه وتوليفه بدلاً من دفنه.
ما العمل إذاً لمعرفة ما "يعد به" هؤلاء الشباب؟ سوى التقرّب من حياتهم اليومية، "بعيداً من الخطب التقليدية"، وتعلّم لغاتهم، وفك رموز شعائرهم القديمة والجديدة، وتفهم لهفتهم.
