يعد نهر النيل من أطول الأنهار في العالم إذ يبلغ طوله نحو 6800 كم، وينبع من بحيرة فكتوريا وتشترك فيه عشر دول هي: أثيوبيا وزائير وكينيا وإريتيريا وتنزانيا ورواندا وبروندي وأوغندا والسودان ومصر. وفي هذا الكتاب دراسة علمية مهمة جاءت بعناية الأستاذ الدكتور "نادر نور الدين محمد" أستاذ قسم الأراضي والمياه في كلية الزراعة في جامعة القاهرة إلى جانب عمله كمتعاون مع البنك الدولي وبرنامج الغذاء العالمي. وهي تتضمن المعلومات الكاملة عن الموارد المائية والأرضية والتي تمثل الموارد الزراعية في دول حوض النيل العشر ومستقبل التعاون بينها في حسن استغلال هذه الموارد وتنميتها وبالتالي المشاركة في التنمية المستقبلية المستدامة لهذه الدول بعيداً عن الصراعات المتوقعة أو على الأقل ترحيلها لعقد قادم على الأقل. وفي هذه الدراسة يلقي الكاتب اللوم على الحكومات المصرية المتتابعة خلال السنوات العشر السابقة نتيجة لإهمالها قضايا حوض النيل وإقامة علاقات اقتصادية قوية مع هذه الدول والحرص على إقامة حوار دائم والاستماع إلى مطالبها بدلاً من التعالي الذي أدى بدول حوض النيل إلى هذه الانتفاضة. من جانب آخر اعتبر الكاتب أن "حق الفيتو لمصر في مياه النيل هو حق أصيل يجب ألاّ نتخلى عنه لأن حقنا في مياه النهر أقوى كثيراً من الحجج والأسانيد التي أعطت هذا الفيتو لسبع دول في العالم ليس لها ما يهدد وجودها وحياة شعبها مثلما يمثل نهر النيل لمصر وبالتالي فإذا أرادت دول المنابع إلغاء حق مصر في هذا الفيتو فعليها أن تلغي حق الفيتو العالمي الممنوح للدول السبع الكبرى". توزعت الدراسة في أربعة أبواب هي: الباب الأول: منابع نهر النيل. الباب الثاني: موارد دول حوض النيل المائية والأرضية. الباب الثالث: الاستثمار الزراعي في مصر ودول الحوض. الباب الرابع: الوجود الأجنبي في دول حوض النيل. وأخيراً: مرفقات تتضمن الاتفاقيات التاريخية الموقعة بشأن حقوق المياه في نهر النيل وموقف دول منابع حوض النيل من تلك الاتفاقيات.
