من شأن خيار واحد أن يغير حياتك أو يدمّر مستقبلك. لكن، لكلّ خيار عواقب، ومع تصاعد الاضطرابات بين مختلف الجماعات، تجد تريس برايور نفسها مضطرّة إلى الاستمرار في محاولة إنقاذ أحبائها ونفسها، بينما تتصارع مع أسئلة مؤرقة عن الحزن والغفران، والهوية والولاء، والسياسة والحبّ.
كان ينبغي أن تختتم تريس فترة تلقينها بالاحتفال بفوزها مع الجماعة التي اختارتها. لكن، عوضاً عن ذلك انتهى يومها بأهوال ستدفع حياتها إلى الأبد. فقد بدأ شبح الحرب يلوح الآن في الأفق مع نموّ الصراع بين الجماعات وأيديولوجياتها. وفي الحروب، لا بدّ من اختيار فريق، وظهور أسرار، لتصبح الخيارات لا رجعة فيها، وأكثر قوّة من ذي قبل. تريس - التي لم تغيّرها قراراتها فحسب، بل إحساسها بالحزن والذنب اللذين لم يفارقاها، فضلاً عن اكتشافاتها الجذرية، وعلاقاتها المتقلّبة - كان لا بدّ لها أن تعيش جموحها بكلّ معانيه، مهما كلّفها ذلك.
بدأت فيرونيكا روث بكتابة ثلاثية «الجامحة» وهي لا تزال طالبة جامعية في جامعة نورث وسترن. وهي الآن كاتبة متفرغة. السيدة روث وزوجها يسمّيان شيكاغو بيتهما. ورواية «المتمردة» هي الجزء الثاني من هذه الثلاثية وقد تحولت إلى فيلم سينمائي يبدأ عرضه في الصالات في ربيع العام 2015.
