تأزمت علاقة "دارية" و "سيف". كان واضحاً منذ البداية أنه لا يوجد ما يربط بين هذا الرجل وتلك المرأة. هو يعمل مع الأرقام. ويعيش أيضاً بالأرقام. 1+1=2، لا يستطيع إنسان عاقل إنكار هذه الحقيقة. لم تسطع أن تواجهه برأيها. أن تقول بصوت عادى خالٍ من الإنفعال إنها تعتقد أن 1+1=1. هذا بالطبع إن وجد بين الإثنين هذا الإنسجام الكيميائى بين روحين. فيمكنه مثلاً أن يلتقط بسهولة ذبذبات حيرة أو قلق فى عينيها العسليتين الصامتتين. ويمكنها أن تفهم سبب عذابه. تريحه، وتكون له أماً أخرى.
لم تكن المواجهة من طبائع دارية. لا لشىء إلا لكونها لم تكن تعرف. لكن فى سنوات زواجها الأولى من سيف لم تكن تعرف أنها لاتعرف. كانت فتاة طيبة وديعة تسعى للحصول على إعجاب الآخرين، على مباركتهم لمحاولاتها الدؤوب أن ترضيهم. حازت رضا ناظرات المدرسة التى عملت بها فور تخرجها. واكتسبت صداقات استمرت. هل كان من السهل عليها أن تدرك أنها عروس ورقية مجوًفة من الداخل يملؤها هواء.
